Community Involvement

Maritime Energy and Maritime Farms have again demonstrated their commitment to the Muscular Dystrophy Association by raising $49,675.00 this year, a significant increase over last year's contribution. On Labor Day, Sept. 6th, Vice President Susan Ware and Fuel Dispatcher, Barbara Hersey, of Maritime presented the checks during the MDA telethon at Channel 5 in Bangor. Maritime is one of the largest supporters in the state of Maine.

This is Maritime's 11th year being involved with Muscular Dystrophy and has raised over $200,000 to date. This year Maritime raised money by selling shamrocks at its Maritime Farms' convenience stores, held a golf tournament in May at the Samoset Resort and was host to a "Jail 'n Bail" lock-up.

"Maritime remains committed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association until a cure is found. We will continue to provide the energy, enthusiasm, and contributions to help those afflicted by muscular dystrophy. I'd like to thank our customers, employees, Citgo, and our vendors for their hard work and desire in helping Maritime raise money for a great cause. Everyone should be proud of their efforts and involvement," states Susan Ware.

There are over 40 neuromuscular diseases. It costs $600.00 to send a child to camp for a week and $62.00 a minute for research. Money Maritime Energy/Farms contributes stays right here in the state of Maine.

Maritime Energy/Farms' contribution focus remains with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In addition to MDA, Maritime donates thousands of dollars each year to local youth organizations, numerous benefit events and associations.
